The Palace of Leonidas, a name unfitting of this place, no it was the Palace of Sparta. The building where the Agaids had ruled from for over 15 generations. There was some much history within this magnificent building. Each of the Kings had commissioned a bust of themselves and placed it in the entrance of the palace, lining the walls leading to the main chamber. In all there were 16 busts, 8 on each side, showing the superb lineage of the Agaid line. Between each bust was a plant reaching to the head of the bust and the floor was covered with a carpet leading into the main chamber. It was red and lined with gold on the sides. To the west wing of the building is a garden/open area in the middle of a small complex used for strolls and talking. It is here where many a secret meeting are held. Leonidas's bedroom is connected to this open area.
The main chamber in an open room covered by a red carpet and at the back of the room toward the center was a throne on top of 5 steps. It was made from beautifully carved wood with caps of gold. To the left and right were two similar wooden chairs, though these were not raised. Behind the center throne is a white banner with a red symbol of Sparta (looks like an A with no line in the middle). Their are column's about the room and pottery depicting scenes from spartan history. Below and right of the throne is a bust of Leonidas.

Leonidas from his throne saw the man enter. Instantly his heart sank, the man had already lost his daughter and now he could be taking him from his son. 'This is one of those moments when my job is difficult.' he thought to himself but he showed no sign of emotion. He nodded to him, he knew the man would die for him for it was his duty to Sparta and to his family. The first few recruits were filling in, he would have time for small talk till the rest arrive.
Leonidas stepped down from his throne and approached the man, he took his right arm and gripped Stelios's left shoulder.
"Welcome brother. I have heard of your daughter, you have my sympathy. Now is not time though for those thoughts. You soon shall know why you have come here. We must wait for the others though. Peace be with you."
He slowly dropped his hand from the man's shoulder and began to walk back to his throne, awaiting the others.

Into the palace of mighty Sparta arrives a man of roughly thirty five years of age. This man is of an origin, clearly not Greek. He wears the robes of Persian royalty but at the same time has the muscles of a strong warrior. He carries on his side a large sword which seems to hold great power. This is Hiram the Third, mighty king of Phonecia. Though he is currently a king in exile he firmly wishes to reestablish his kingdom, at the same time doing away with Xerxes.
Mighty Leonidas, I am Hiram the Third, son of the Phonecian king Hiram II. I have come to you to ask your aid. I wish to reclaim my lost kingdom and to at the same time depose the fool, Xerxes. My father submitted many years ago to Xerxes' grandfather, Cyrus. Both Cyrus and his son-in-law Darius were mighty and worthy kings but Xerxes himself is a foolish tyrant. Will you aid my quest?

Dienekes had returned to Sparta after four years, an eternity in his eyes. He had been campaigning against the Athenians, and after sustaining horrific losses during a skirmish in which they had been outnumbered 5:1, his only option was to return to Sparta. Those who had survived the campaign would be celebrating even as he walked along the corridors to the Throneroom.
He approached the oaken doors, swung them wide, and stepped inside. He saw Leonidas and another soldier he knew, and almost unsheathed his spatha when he saw the third person in audience with the King. A persian in the palace? 'Oh well' he thought, 'I shall know in time'. He clenched a fist and brought it to his breast in salute, stood stalk-still, and waited to be acknowledged.

Leonidas was thinking over his move on Thermopylae. It was now constantly on his mind, every moment was thinking of defeating the Persians. he would not allow for his wife and son to become Persian slaves, likely his wife would become one of Xerxes toys. He he could not allow for Sparta nor his family to fall prey to the Persians. His warriors were begining to assemble when the King walked in. He looked at the man and clearly he was a Persian. Leonidas at first was reaching for his sword when the man began to speak and declared himself an enemy of Persia.
"Who is this that walks into my home unannounced? How did you get past my guards?"
He stepped down from his throne and walked to the man.
"The King of Phonecia you say? The Kingdom who now bows it's neck to Persia?"
Looking about the man again he was astonished that he had gotten that far dressed as a Persian.
"You wear the Robes of Persian nobility but call yourself their enemy? If it was not for my knowledge of you being exiled I would have cut you down where you stand. Though my enemy's enemy is my friend. Welcome to Sparta."
His tone changed at the end and he let out a laugh.
"My friend, all the armies of Greece shall be used in the defence of our own lands. I know not what I can do for you. I will do what I can though, you may stay in Sparta while you gather your supplies and forces. Food supplies may be bought from any greek city, Sparta may have....."
He was interuppted again when another walked into the doors.
"Ahh a Spartan. We have never been known for our manners, but for Aries' sake could anyone at least let me know they are comming? Your name, Spartan."

Gratified at the king's answer, Hiram smiles. He takes off the Persian robe and shows a robe that, though still in imperial purple, is much finer than any worn by the Persians. This is the Phonecian imperial tunic. As he turns back to Leonidas he speaks again:
My fellow king, I simply ask that when you defeat Xerxes, you aid me in my quest. Until then, I shall help you in driving his from your land. Do we have a deal?

"Dienekes, I have returned to the capital with nigh on five dozen soldiers, after the campaign against Athens." he explained. After another quick survery of the chamber, he added "I've heard there's trouble afoot". The expression on Leonidas' features told him the rumors had been accurate, but Dienekes found the lines etched across his forehead even more unsettling.
He walked toward the throne, so he and Leonidas wouldn't have to shout at eachother, and stood beside the other Spartan, whom he recognized as Stelios. Leonidas was now in speaking with the persian, which made Dienekes wonder just how much Sparta had changed during his absence.

Leonidas was stunned. When did Sparta go to war with Athens, nothing he had sanctioned. He scruffed his brow looking at the man. "When did Sparta go to fight Athens? How could we fight our brothers in a time when we need them more than the helots that supply Sparta." He put his hand on the Spartan. "Respect the Athenians, especially now. Their navy is key in crushing Persia. Now is not the time for our rivalry."
He turned his head to the Phonecian "Once the Persians have been driven from Greece, I dream of an army of Greeks to march through all of Persia and Liberate Persia's slave territories. If I still draw breath, perhaps I could lead that army, though it would likely fall into the hands of my dear nephew. A brilliant commander to be sure. He shall honor my wishes, and my wish is to crush Persia. You have my word that when Persia is repelled from Greece, a Spartan army will be ready to aid our newly found allies."
He walked back to his throne and took a cup of wine and drank it all in a single gulp.

Post by Astinos on Mar 26, 2007 17:11:27 GMT -5
Twenty minutes ago inside the home of Artemis:
Astinos entered his family's home after a particularly enjoyable afternoon. Not that there had been anything exemplary about it, or at least that is how he answered his mother's query, "Nothing special, mother. I sparred. I won." He grinned down at her and kissed her forehead. He rubbed the surface of the apple she had given him and bit into it. The sweet juice filled his mouth as his teeth chewed it into tiny bit. He took in a deep and satisfied breath.
His mother smoothed the hair out of his face like she had when he was a boy. He gazed down at her, those memories were so distant now. He was a man now. He had passed every test put before him. He tried to behave casually, but he had never been good at keeping a secret, at least not from his mother, "Whats for dinner? It smells incredible?"
"Roast boar."
He smiled. His favorite meal. He moved to stand near the wide expanse between the two columns that marked the entrance into the garden. Water from the fountain spilled from one level to the next. Just as his own desire to tell her over took him, "Mother!
She came running, "What goes son?"
"I have something to tell you. I was going to wait until after dinner but I cannot," Astinos sounded much more calm than he felt. Still it was great news. He had always expected to join his father's side in battle, but he had not expected it so soon either, "I am to become a member of the King's personal guard. I will fight at my father's side and at our great and noble King's back!"
He didn't get the joyful reaction he had hoped, if anything she was a little pale. He nodded as she said quietly, "I am proud of you...my son. Go now...I am not feeling well. Dinner will be ready in two hours."
Leaving his mother's side did not take her from his thoughts. Astinos glanced back in her direction before moving toward the room he shared with his younger brothers. One of them was already in training for he was twelve. The other, the youngest among them was six and would be leaving in a few days when he became seven. His sister was sixteen and despite how annoying she could be, Astinos thought just as highly of her. She was a shield maiden, a Spartan Archer.
Moving outside, he heard the summons being spoken of. He stood, his arms crossed over his chest, he listened as one of the older men relayed the contents of the King's request.
Astinos nodded and asked when the men would be meeting. He nodded and rushed back inside as he learned of today's gathering. He splashed clean water onto his face and pushed the damp hair back out of his eyes. He was off and running to the palace moments later, his dinner and his mother's reaction forgotten for the time being.
~ Now... At The Palace of Leonidas~
Astinos slipped into the crowded room, finding a place behind several men he recognized. He was not surprised to see his friend Dienekes present, nor Stelios. His height gave his presence away soon enough and he moved through the sea of men to stand near the other two men. He was not married and had no sons. That however did not mean that he couldn't get a good idea of who was volunteering. Or better yet learn what this was all about.
He was a citizen of Sparta. It was in that capacity that he stood among soldiers now. Not that he wouldn't join them if given half the chance, "How goes it, friends?"

Into the palace of Sparta once again marches the mighty, albeit deposed king of Phonecia. He walks with a gait very different from most kings, most similar to the king of Sparta himself. Marching towards his fellow monarch's throne he smiles.
My fellow king, I have something very important to ask of you.

Post by Archelaos Jude on Apr 5, 2007 23:07:12 GMT -5
Archelaos had very well much crossed himself off of the King's request list as he had no continuity of his bloodline. To care for a son was a blessing, but would come in due time. After all, he couldn't stay off of his Spartan woman. However, the present called for business. The King's request would surely bring about familiar faces to whom would make a commitment to Sparta, for Sparta. This commitment would be witnessed by Captain Archelaos despite his evident absence in battle by the King's wishes. He knew that it was best for his own family to accept this. Captured by the roar of Spartan women in laughter, Archelaos smiled, giving the group a nod of greeting before continuing. The day was nice but it wasn't over. * * * * * * * * Captain Archelaos had entered the palace, greeting the guards with his usual air of business with a settle nod and the clearing of his throat. Under other circumstances perhaps he would have actually made eye contact, but they were familiar with his professional ways. 'Archelaos' one said in return before ushering him inside the Palace walls. "My friend," Archelaos gave as thanks before finding the throne of King Leonidas and the inhabitants of the Main Chamber. His eyes swept the company in haste to take count. It wasn't hard to notice the Persian visitor, but Archelaos would be none to make a scene. Instead, he allowed himself the privacy of his own mind to question while moving toward King Leonidas. He would allow his friend proper time to finish his current address before stating his business.

Ajax thundered into the palace room, he easily pushed open the large doors with his massive arms. He could see well above the rest of the small crowd, most of them hardly even came to his shoulder. He walked forward closer to the king, and he stood patiently as he waited to be recognized, shouldn't take long.
His eyes were drawn to a purple robe, a persian. Although he had just seen this man in conversation with Leonidas himself, and thought nothing more of it. He was standing beside two other warriors waiting for the kings acknowledgement.

OOC: This site is pretty well dead. Also, this is a role play thread not an out of character one. If you need to post out of character keep it out of the role play threads and in the general board. All Role Play groups will tell you that.
