Dragged away from his family at an early age, harsh it was indeed, yet every Spartan knows that this is soon to happen once they reach seven years of age, the number seven appears harmless, it is the complete opposite, it causes much depression in the Spartan boys' lives and for the next year or so, they wish only to return home, well that does not happen. Dilios was one of these unfortunate Spartan children, dragged from his mother almost instantly after he turned seven, a cruel decision, but it was pretty much the law, and it had to be obeyed, otherwise there would be some serious repercussions coming towards the main forum of Sparta in forms of angry mobs and distressed mothers. Although it seemed like a harsh thing to do, in the right eyes, it was a clever move, if the children were not taken, they would grow up as pansies just like the boys in Athens, obsessed with art and all that kind of crap, that would surely be worse than getting whipped into shape, right...?
Maybe, but not only were they dragged away from their families, it wasn't good for them with their new 'family', no it wasn't, they had to help themselves to survive, merely to test endurance, this was a ridiculous test indeed, followed by all Spartan males, although some did not make it out the other end alive, it would be thirteen hard years in this place, many tests and trials awaited the young men along the way, they had to participate in fights with those who hold much more experience and skill than them, and they had to steal just to stay alive, surely this kind of behaviour would not generate a very disciplined army at the end, would it? It would, the whippings taught them to hold on and to never give up, a mere scream and the punishment would be much worse... The 'friendly' duels taught these men how to fight and how to act in a battle situation and of course the thievery... Well, that taught them jack squat, it was just that the elders chose not to use all their money on food they wouldn't go down their own greedy throats.
Recent flashbacks caused Dilios to have these visions, he hated them, he hated the years he spent in the academy and he did not want to think back to the traumatic time, yet his concious forced him to, he held his head in anger when he thought about what was done to him as a young child, he would curl himself up and take the beatings like a man, how he was meant to take them, he could only consider himself lucky that he had passed twenty now, yet he felt some compassion for the kids that hadn't quite reached puberty yet, their childhoods would soon be affected in one of the worse ways possible, yet what comes out of it would defend Sparta from any enemies. The strict regime would create a pure killer who could take on many invaders by themselves, in the end, for Sparta, it is worth it.
Dilios didn't only have flashbacks about the trainers, the other children were harsh towards the others because they hated the fact that they were stuck in this dump, unfortunately enough, Dilios was an unlucky one, constantly beat on just because he had a small penis and developed late, of course at his age now, it had indeed gt bigger, shame it was a little late eh? Dilios had the last laugh, those guys didn't make it through, they laid in a grave rotting somewhere, a funny thought to Dilios who hated these people more than he did the trainers, after all, it was what they had to do, the kids didn't need to bully the others. They chose to, and therefore got their just desserts for it.
After many of these flashbacks, Dilios decided to return, just to take a look around, remember the bad things about the place, and more importantly the good things... What bloody good things? There were none. Absolutely none. These people were harsh in every way and should think of a better way to train the Spartan men into warriors, but they chose the easy route, take them away from their loved ones, make them fend for themselves for years and whip them when they do the smallest of rebellious things, Dilios' time was over now though, for him, it was done and dusted, and if it wern't for his rememberences, he wouldn't even be here... Dilios saw everything he wanted to now, he even witnessed some whippings, he wanted to stop the guards, but if someone did that when he was getting whipped, he would not have turn out as powerfully as he did, Dilios then thought, maybe it was a good thing that they were treated like shit, in the long run of course.
Looking away from the academy, Dilios vowed only to return if deemed necessary, and walked away, not even letting off one look back, to him it was old news, why drag out the past?
There was no reason.
